Like most people, you have a thousand things you have to do. Why not make life easier next time you have a special event? Let The CANDLE help you spread the word with a PSA. Here are a few easy ways to ensure that your public service announcement gets on the air.
- Make sure that all information arrives at least three weeks before your event. If you have a closing date for the sign-ups or to purchase tickets, we need that information three weeks before your deadline.
- Please have your PSA typed on company/organization/church letterhead and include the following information: who, when, what, where, how much (when applicable), and the name and phone number of a contact person for more information. FAX the information to The CANDLE.9 Attn: PSA Dept at 707-965-4161.
- Because of time constraints, we cannot guarantee the number of times, and time of day, that your PSA will be read. All of our PSA’s go into circular rotation. If that rotation contains only a few announcements, your PSA will air more often. If there are many announcements in rotation, your announcements will air less frequently. It will be on the web site approximately two weeks prior to your event and will stay on the web site until the event is over.
- One last reminder. The CANDLE, as a service to the community, provides you with the opportunity to air information about special events. This service is free and you are invited to submit your information for possible broadcast and web site posting. Not every PSA received will be aired or posted to the web site community bulletin board. We evaluate each PSA on content and interest to our listeners. If a PSA fits the basic goals and mission of the station, we are more than happy to put the announcement on the air and the community bulletin board. If an event does not make it on the air or the community bulletin board, we ask that you kindly respect our right not to air or post the announcement.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will you air a pre-recorded PSA? No. We will only accept PSA’s in Text form.
How long are the PSA's 30 sec or 60 sec?
PSA's are not any specific length of time. We generally let our listeners know about the event, time, place and phone#.
Do you save our faxes?Once the fax has been entered into the computer PSA rotation, we throw it away.
Can you please confirm with me that you received my fax?
No. We get over 100 faxes per day and our front office is not staffed for that function.
I didn't know about the three-week advance notice - can't you make an exception?No. Although we are sorry you did not know about the policy, you have it now and can refer to it for future events.
Can I speak to your office assistants about my PSA?No. They enter in several faxes per day and are not able to step out of their offices to take phone calls regarding your specific PSA.
Can you tell me what time of the day my PSA will run?
No. PSA's run 24/7 and there is no guarantee when it will run.
Can you at least tell me the day it will run?No. Once the PSA's are entered in for the week, we allow technology to take over and the computer will select the day and time your PSA will run.
Can I call the DJ directly and ask them to check the rotation of my PSA?No. They will only have the logs for their specific shift and they will not be able to pull that information.
Will you call me if there is missing information on my PSA?No. We have several hundred faxes to thumb through and are not able to call if information is missing. It is imperative that you follow the policy as outlined in page 1.
My event is so important and special - can't you please give us more than 1-2 times of mentions?No. If you'd like more mentions of your event than the PSA program offers, contact us at 707-965-5155 and we can assist you in exploring our paid underwriting program.
If I send in a donation along with my PSA will you give my PSA more consideration and on air rotation? No. You can make a donation on behalf of your organization, but we cannot tie that donation to the PSA.
The Public Service Announcement Program is designed as a service to the community and the surrounding business, organizations, churches, schools etc. The program provides ‘FREE’ airtime to promote your organizations specific event. The CANDLE extends this privilege to the community and in turn this provides listeners with information on events happening in the area. We have several hundred organizations participating in this program and we do our best to accommodate as many as we can. We ask that you respect our policy and do not ask for more than we can provide under this program.
